About the Cotati Jazz, Blues & Arts Festival
Sonoma County, California
SWING BABY SWING!
East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy, Jitterbug, International Jive, and Jivin’ are all names for what will be going on in La Plaza Park on Saturday, June 14th from noon 'til nine. The 28th Annual Cotati Jazz Festival will salute swing music with 5 swing bands in the park and additional bands playing all day and night in 7+ other venues all over town. And as always, admission is absolutely free.
Have you ever wanted to learn how to swing dance? There will be dance instructors in the park giving lessons… for free. Just in case you need to loosen up before hopping on the huge dance floor in the middle of the park, we will have a wine tasting tent featuring six local wineries, coordinated by Cotati Corner Wine Shop.
Organized by the Cotati Chamber of Commerce, the Cotati Jazz Festival has been growing a little larger each year for the past 7 years. It is not our goal to become a huge, multi-media spectacle. This is a community jazz festival that encourages you to bring the kids, your parents, a blanket and enjoy a day surrounded by music, dancing, food, and art. It is about as cool as the other side of the pillow.
You may wonder how we raise money for all of this if we don’t charge admission. Ads and sponsorships are sold to local businesses and there are raffles on the day of the event. We also gladly accept donations from local patrons of the arts. We are still in need of local businesses to advertise with us. The Community Voice, Oliver’s Market, and Andre Morrow, Agent, State Farm Insurance are already major sponsors, but we are in need of a few more. If you are a business interested in becoming a sponsor or a local artist interested in showing your work, please call 707-794-8100.
This year, 50% of all net profits will be presented to the Rancho Cotati Music Boosters. We all know that music programs are being cut in this fiscally tight economy. This is a way to support local kids interested in music. Last year, the Cotati Chamber of Commerce gave $1750 to support Hurricane Katrina relief via Habitat for Humanity. This was a direct result of Cotati businesses stepping up and supporting “A Salute to New Orleans.”
If you cats are already into the Swing Scene (referring to music), feel free to wear your dance gear and tell all your friends. People will be coming from all over California to be a part of “the biggest little jazz festival in Sonoma County!”
